Массовое уклонение от призыва на военную службу во время войны во Вьетнаме [Vietnam War] как способ протеста против самой войны. Некоторые призывники совершили акт публичного сожжения призывных повесток [draft card], другие бежали на территорию Канады. По всей стране проходили мощные демонстрации протеста, особенно с участием студентов, начиная с 14-тысячной демонстрации 15-16 октября 1965 по Пятой авеню в г. Нью-Йорке [Fifth Avenue Vietnam Peace Parade] до 100-тысячного митинга протеста в г. Вашингтоне 9 мая 1970. К концу войны власти разыскивали 137 тыс. человек, уклонившихся от призыва. 16 сентября 1974 президент Дж. Форд [Ford, Gerald Rudolph, Jr.] объявил "условную амнистию" этим лицам с обязательством прохождения ими двухлетней гражданской службы, однако лишь менее 10 тыс. человек воспользовались этой амнистией. Большинство осудило ее как акт признания за ними вины, с чем они не были согласны.
